30+ years now…I recall grunge bands breaking mainstream:
Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden…

But radio listeners and CD buyers never got the full flavor of the scene. Luckily – I traveled to Seattle for business regularly…and thought – damn I wish I lived here. Everything is Awesome (thanks Tegan and Sara).

Anyway…I was lucky. Growing up in Iowa, the classic rock dominated. Nothing wrong with that, but how many Bob Seger, Led Zeppelin, Who, and Journey songs can you listen to and not pull out a revolver.

This is funny…
Living in Madison WI now – and the local Classic Rock station is now including the 1990s in their playlist. Makes me feel old – but hey, all those 1990 grunge bands are now considered classic rock. Not sure whether to be happy – or depressed.

So-
Rolling Stones list is decent – but leans a touch too commercial for my taste. This Loudwire list seems truer.  And their #1 is also mine.

But shit – art is personal, and in the eye of the beholder. No band is better than another. If it works for you – its your #1.

But-
Listen to Alice in Chains…and you’ll understand why I’m right. And you’re wrong.
